You Can't Handle the Truth

Now that McCain has announced Sarah Palin, as his surprise pick for Vice President, I thought it was appropriate to highlight Colonel Jessup's quote from A Few Good Men:

"There is nothing on this earth sexier, believe me, gentlemen, than a woman you have to salute in the morning. Promote 'em all, I say, 'cause this is true: if you haven't gotten a blowjob from a superior officer, well, you're just letting the best in life pass you by. 'Course, my problem is, I'm a colonel, so I guess I'll just have to keep taking cold showers until one of you gals is elected president. "

And the best random thought

And the best random thought of all...

Barrack Obama just surprised the Democratic National Convention crowd and showed up after Joe Biden's speech....

He also surprised Jill Biden - who was standing next to her husband on stage - by kissing her squarely on the lips.

I think it was initially intended as a cheek kiss, but went in the direction of you go one way and the other person mistakingly goes the same way and you end up kissing them on the lips ... instead of the whole Al-Tipper Gore disgusting lip lock featured in the 2000 Democratic National Convention.

Funny nonetheless. ...

Random Thoughts ...

I haven't been very dedicated at blogging lately, so here are some random thoughts...

I'm listening to Joe Biden accept the Democratic nomination for Vice President and he just said the funniest thing. To paraphase: He said that George W. Bush has left our country in disarray and that's the same thing that George...John McCain will provide us with if he is elected President. He said it was a Freudian slip and it's pretty clear that it wasn't planned because of the way that he delivered the line. Very funny. ...

I have 3 fantasy teams this year and out of all of my teams, my best team by far was the one that was drafted by the computerized autopick. I should probably stop reading 2 fantasy football magazine each offseason. ...

The Yankees are dead. I haven't blogged about them much this year (except when I attended 3 Yankees games this year). Most of the reason for this is that I've been so frustrated with the team this season. Between the slew of injuries (Wang, Chamberlain, Hughes, Kennedy, Posada, etc.) and lack of hitting in clutch situations from the Yankees, they haven't given me much to cheer about. ... Thank God it's the start of football season next week. ...

Happy 30th Birthday to my lovely wife on Sept. 2nd. We are going into NYC on Saturday for a nice dinner and to see Wicked on Broadway. Should be fun! ...

Happy Bday to both Eddie and BBR as well ... Good luck in Vegas guys! ...

I'm in friggin Scranton again for 4 more public open houses. The 3rd open house was conducted tonight and so far this week there's only been 77 attendees combined. Boy, that sucks. ...

I really want to see Tropic Thunder and Pineapple Express, but haven't gotten around to it. I'll probably end up waiting until the DVDs come out. ...

I'm being very democratic/patriotic tonight and after Biden's speech is over I plan on watching Beavis and Butthead Do America. ...

And finally...when someone (like your boss) tells you that they need something ASAP, why don't they just say that they need it NOW?

I'm Tired Of the Olympics

I usually love it, but after 12 days of it, I'm tired of the Olympics ...

I'm tired of 14-year-old Chinese gymnasts winning medals when they weren't nearly -- old enough or --as good as the other gymnasts.

I'm tired of Bob Costas' expensive toupee. ...

I'm tired of stories of reporters eating BBQ'd scorpions from Chinese food markets.

I'm tired of Michael Phelps. He won 8 medals with a superman swim suit and a deeper, hi-tech pool. I get it. He's going to make millions and get tons of ass. Maybe he can take some of that money and fix his damn lisp...

I never thought I'd say it... but I'm tired of Kerri Walsh's ass. ...

The Fish Was THIS BIG!

My father in-law, brother in-law and his friend - all who are big time fishermen -- invited me for some late night shore fishing this Saturday and while I hadn't gone fishing in 15 years I agreed.

Despite our 5+ hours in the beach, the fish weren't biting on Saturday night.
And by the end of the night, I - the novice fisherman -- was the only one that caught a fish.
And let me tell you, I caught a HUGE fish. It was at least 3 feet long and 25 lbs in weight! If we hadn't thrown it back it could have fed a hungry family of 4 for 2 weeks.

ANNNDDDD.....Bad Afternoon Everybody.....I Suck Today

It's a sad day. ...

I learned today that my favorite afternoon entertainment, Mike and the Mad Dog, have split up. Like the Shockey trade a couple weeks ago, it's something that was rumored for weeks to happen, but when it actually came to its fruition, it didn't make me feel any better.

For the past 19 years, I've listened to Mike and the Mad Dog on WFAN and could never turn it off, despite the fact that Chris Russo (The Mad Dog) frequently annoyed the hell out of me from his constant mispronunciation of words/players' names (from Joeba to Gagggney) to his pure hatred of the Yankees. At times, he made no sense. At times, he was illogical. And at times, he pissed me off to no end.

Still though, it was a ritual of mine to listen to Russo's "Annnnnnddddd....Good afternoon everybody....How are you today!!?" trademark opening to the show. There were times that I was too busy to listen to the show, but still tuned it at 1:04 p.m. to hear that opening. It never got old and always brought a smile to my face.

I've always liked Mike Francesca, despite the fact that he could frequently be rude and over the top cocky/arrogant to his callers. Honestly though, I'm happy he's the one that he's staying with the FAN as he was, by far, the better of the two mid-day FAN hosts because of his knowledge of sports and his base in reality. (Russo was always over the top and insane in his comments).

Maybe it was their differences that made the show work so well and kept me listening on a daily basis. It's a sad, sad day for New York sports radio listeners everywhere ...

Wow!

I really like the Olympics.

Last night was one of those Olympic nights (ala Kerri Strug) that I'll remember forever... as the U.S. Men's team took home the 4x100 relay Gold with an awesome come from behind victory against the trash talking French swimmers.
What an awesome race!

What the Hell is Brett Farv....rrrrra Doing Here?

New York Giants Cornerback Corey Webster is upset this morning ...

He's no longer the answer to the trivia question: Who caught Brett Favre's last NFL pass?

I saw the news that Favre was traded to the Jets last night and immediately thought the following things:
  • It's a great, low risk trade for the Jets.
  • It will once again put the Madden Curse to the test.
  • It GREATLY increases the fantasy value of Laveranues Coles and Jerrico Cotchery.
  • And, it gives the team some validity in the town dominated by the Super Bowl XLII Champions New York Giants.

You knew I had to get that last one in there, didn't you?

Random Thoughts of the Day

Does anyone else think that Aaron Rodgers has Jeff Gillooly on speed dial? ...

You might have gleaned this from my photo and mention of Hiro Nakamura in yesterday's blog, but I just finished watching the first season of Heroes last night and thought it was excellent. It's a good show that is nearly reaching greatness. ...

I neglected to mentioned that when we visited on AC on vacation, we checked out the new electronic tables at Trump. We didn't get a chance to play at the tables, because there was literally no one else in the room. Hopefully we can play there on the next gambling trip...however, there's something to be said for actually holding real cards and chips versus doing it on a computer. ...

If Joba has more than just a stiff shoulder, I think I'm going to jump off a building. ...

Did you know that suits in a deck of cards are valued in the following order to help break ties (1. Spades, 2. Hearts, 3. Diamonds, 4. Clubs). I didn't know that...and I thought I knew everything about poker.

I Did It!!

It took 2,416 days (or 6 years and 226 days if you are counting at home), but I finally did it!

(Imagine Hiro Nakumura from NBC's Heroes raising his arms and screaming at the top of lungs "I Did It" in broken English)....

Yes, I did it. ... I have finally brainwashed my wife into LOVING the New York Yankees.

For the past 6+ years, my wife has had a passing interest in the game of baseball.

But this year, something changed. Maybe it was the constant games I've "forced" her to watch or listen to over the years. Whatever it has been, this season, she's taken a real liking to the Yankees.

So, throughout this season, I've slowly taught her about the game of baseball and the Yankees. I taught her how to score a baseball game and the intricate details behind how tagging up works.

She can now tell me where the force play is at. She can tell me the order of the Yankees lineup. She can tell me who fields what positions. It's been pretty awesome teaching her.

But it wasn't complete until today when she asked me what time the game was on tonight ...

That has never happened before. And it was then that I knew for the first time that my quest was complete.

I Did It!!

Vacation Was Awesome

It really helps to clear your mind (a ton) by going on vacation. The wife and I just returned from Ocean City, NJ after a week stay and we definitely spent the trip relaxing, taking in some sun and winning some MONEY.

On Monday, we arrived early in the OC - sans Lauren Conrad - and spent the day soaking up the rays - not those first place Tampa Bay Rays - before waiting an 1 1/2 hour for a half decent dinner at Crap "Tourist" Trap in Somers Pt.

On Tuesday, we spent another day on the beach dealing with the screaming of nutty high school boys trying to show off for their high school girls squeezes - i keep getting older and they keep staying the same age.

On Wednesday, we ventured further south in jersey and spent the day at the Wetlands Institute where we learned a TON about white and black egrete and even got to see for the first time live Terrapins -- Fear the Turtle. After that we headed down to wildwood to enjoy the boardwalk and relive my childhood days -- my family and i took an annual trip down there every summer. the shine is definitely off wildwood, i'll tell you.

The highlight of the day - BY FAR - was the wife and my clear domination of A Deal or No Deal game where you actually picked a case and eliminated the other ones. the prize was a bunch of tickets to buy prizes - you know those crappy bouncy balls or plastic rings. well, in one of the games, we took the bankers deal of 501 tickets when there was only the 1,000 ticket and 3 ticket case. turns out we had the 1,000 ticket case, but i was happy with our deal. we ended up getting Yahtzee with our 780 tickets.

The day got better when we returned to our room and I found out that the Yankees had traded Kyle Farnsworth for Ivan Rodriguez. I don't care how much Pudge's skills have diminished as a catcher since he was a perennial All-Star in the late 90s. I don't care how "good" Kyle Farnsworth looked this year. I still never trusted that guy in a big game and know that he would have blown up this year in September and - hopefully - October.

On Thursday - we soaked up more rays and I literally basked in the realization that Manny Ramirez will no longer haunt - HAUNT! - my Yankees. I think I was more excited about his trade to the Dodgers as I was when I found out at the Yankees got Pudge.

On Friday, it was more of the same. When discussing at dinner what we were going to do that night - and faced with "more of the same", the wife threw out the suggestion of taking the 20 minute trip to AC and i literally sprung out of my seat at the suggestion - shows you where my head is at! we spent a couple hours at Trump - a sorry excuse for a casino - and Caesars - a quality casino - and I ended up winning $70 after playing poker for only about an hour.

Today, we had breakfast and drove the 2+ hours home. we definitely are happy to be home and are still questioning how we can be tired after returning from a week long vacation. ...
