The Department of Justice approved the proposed merger between Sirius and XM Satellite Radio! The announcement occurred near the end of the day, but the stock still was up around 8% on the day - mainly off rumors on Thursday afternoon and Monday morning that the merger announcement was close. It'll be interesting to see what happens tomorrow.
Now, it's up to the FCC to give their final approval on the merger. Let's hope the Bush-appointed bastards - are they appointed by Bush? - let the merger go through. If not, I'm hiring Janet Jackson to flash her boob on national TV again and mortify the FCC - ala 2003....

I just read an interesting rebuttal to the future of satellite radio. Did your new car with XM also come with an iPod dock? I know mine did. Wouldn't people prefer to get their commercial-free radio from an iPod, where they control the content? With the advent of podcasts, talk radio is even on iPods.
Personally, I keep the Sirius around for the comedy channels. Trish keeps it around for the country channels, but once Stern retires in 2 years, I'll probably cancel my subscription. I don't know how long everyone will be willing to pay for radio once cars start coming with onboard hard drives (already starting to emerge).
Good luck to you and your portfolio. If you buy now at less than $3, you should be able to double your money, but don't expect crazy returns. (keep this on file to rub in my face when you're living on a beach in Hawaii in 15 years)
